Hop Harvest

In addition to brewing some of my favorite beers, Sierra Nevada knows how to throw a damn good party. Every two years, more than 50 breweries from across the country come together for Hop Harvest Festival to showcase their imaginative brews. Also known as Single, Fresh, Wet, and Wild, each brewery pours a selection of beers including single hop beer, fresh hop beer, wet hop beer, or wild hop beer. Cult favorites like Russian River and Lagunitas, and personal favorites Lost Abbey and Magnolia Brewing all made appearances.

Joined by a few friends, beer connoisseurs and novices alike, we set out to fill our commemorative taster glass with as many unlimited samples as possible. Picking beers with interesting names -Punk Rocker IPA, Name Dropper IPA, and Knuckle Sandwich Double IPA- and beers that sounded like dessert -Chocolate Porter, Kung Fu Apple, and Mayberry IPA- we quickly got into the spirit celebrating all things hops.

No festival is complete without live music, a stage to showcase your beer fueled dance moves, and a variety of local food trucks. Luckily Sierra Nevada provided all three. Mayhem Grilled Cheese makes unrivaled sandwiches. Their bacon maple-chipotle grilled cheese was the perfect way to wrap up a fantastic day. Thank you for having us Sierra Nevada! Already counting down the days until next time.
